LVJUSD Framework for Success

The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District uses a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) - a comprehensive framework that aligns academic, behavioral, and social-emotional learning - to meet the needs of all students in our district. Our framework uses an integrated problem-solving model.

Under the umbrella of the LVJUSD framework, the three components that address students’ needs are Academics, Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS), and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL).

Students’ academic needs are addressed using the California core curriculum, school-wide universal screening tools, and a tiered system of interventions to address the needs of every student.

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) is our proactive approach to improving student discipline that includes preventive and responsive approaches implemented with all students that increase in intensity to support small groups of students or individual students.

LVJUSD provides universal, Tier 1 social-emotional learning instruction across TK-12 as part of our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). TK and kindergarten students use Kimochis, a developmentally appropriate curriculum that builds emotional vocabulary, communication skills, empathy, and positive relationships. Students in grades 1-12 use the Merrell Strong social-emotional learning curriculum, which provides explicit, age-appropriate instruction in areas such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, resilience, and problem-solving. Together, these curricula support positive school climate, student well-being, and the character and interpersonal skills students need to be successful in school and beyond.
